I am very sorry to hear about the passing of Rick West.  I  knew Rick from kindergarten and first grade at the Old Butler Elementary School on Butler Hill, Midvalley Elementary, Cottonwood Elementary, Midvale Junior High, Brighton Junior High and until the 12th grade at Hillcrest High School.  In the early days, I often saw Rick jumping at the sand hills at the old Reynolds Sand and Gravel on 7800 South and 20th East, swimming at the old Crestwood Swimming Club and some times at the Willow Creek Country club looking for golf balls in Little Cottonwood Creek.  We were in the Boy Scouts together and spent time camping  at Tracy Wig Wam and other places.  One youth activity was a ride in an DC-3 over our neighborhood, Steffensen Heights, Up to Wasatch Boulevard, down Pepper Hill and Little Cottonwood Creek, then across the Salt Lake Valley to the Kennecott Copper pit in Bingham Canyon.  It was the first time I had ever been in a plane! I  rode the bus to school with Rick and had  gym classes and shop classes with Rick and other classes too!  Rick was a real popular and decent guy, he was always in a good mood and was always fun too!

I went to the Senior Hop with Rick our junior year and I wish I would have known about those youthful adventures and been able to laugh about it together, but we were trying too hard to be grown up then.  I love the kid's obituary; I'm going to take a hike and remember Rick.
