Obituary of Alfred N. Waechter

IN THE CARE OF

McGilley State Line Chapel

Alfred “Al” N. Waechter, 71, passed away August 5th due to an apparent heart attack.

He is survived by children Katherine and Nicholas Waechter, grandchild Parker Bicknell, mother Lillian Waechter, brother Steven Waechter, sister Susan (John) Garcia, nieces and nephews Angela, Renee, Scott and Steven Jr.

He was preceded in death by his father Alfred M. Waechter.

Al grew up in New Orleans, moved with his family to Salt Lake City, and then located to the Overland Park area where he made his home for the last 50 years.

Al graduated from the University of Kansas and was a proud Jayhawk, indeed. He was also a loyal fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, Royals, Sporting KC and of course, his LSU Tigers.

He loved attending concerts, trying all the local restaurants and drinking establishments and kept detailed records documenting all his outings. Knuckleheads, Levee and Boulevard Brewery were among his favorites. We encourage you to “raise one” to Al the next time you are at a local bar or restaurant.

Visitation will be held Thursday, August 18th, 6:00 – 8:00pm at McGilley State Line Chapel, 12301 State Line Rd., Kansas City, MO 64145. Memorial services will be held Friday, August 19th, 1:30pm also at McGilley State Line Chapel with burial to follow at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, KS 66210.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to https://www.kansashealthsystem.com/giving/ways-to-give.

Al made an impact on so many people, and he was such a memorable character. Everyone has an “Al” story, and we encourage you to hang on to those memories. Thank you for your continued support during this difficult time.

Damn, always thought I'd get to buy another pitcher again for our pal, Al. Tonight, Joy and I hoisted a couple for his passing. Yup, that super-cool Baton Rouge-born Dude will be greatly missed. RIP my friend.

Have a trip planned next month to KC. Had made arrangements to meet Al for dinner. My last text to him last week went unanswered. I'm going to miss my good friend that shared my same initials. RIP Al.

Spent lots of time with Al from sophomore year thru seniors!  After moving to CO , then Army time, drifted apart!  Later messaged him and he was still the same old puep! He did the best Tom Jones ever!

When Al moved to Salt Lake City, he moved within a few blocks of my house.  I remember playing basketball at my house and football at Al's house.  We knew each other from junior high school to college. At the U, a group of us decided to form a team and complete in the intermural program.  Foolishly, we let Al name the team and he came up with Bayou Mountain Protein.  What can I say, it's Al at his finest.  I'll always miss his great sense of humor.
