Karen Wright Mitchener Obituary

10/12/1950 ~ 12/7/2012
This world has lost an amazing woman. Her love will continue on in those she leaves behind; her daughter Jady, (Sam) Southworth, her grandchildren that lit up her eyes, Ashlie, Chaz, Jason Longmore, Morgan Ronan, Aurora Southworth, and all her beloved family and friends. We will never forget her beauty, kindness, and contagious smile.
Preceded in death by her oldest daughter Mandy Longmore, husband James Mitchener, mother Ruth Rassmussen, father Arval Nelson, and nephew Brian Nelson. I wish I could see their wonderful reunion in heaven.

Is there any more information? She was such a sweet person...

I'm the worst for keeping in touch with people, always thinking I'll have time and putting off what I should do today until tomorrow.

I spoke with Karens aunt about a year ago and she said she had problems with her heart, a family condition, and she was not good.  Wasn't eating and couldn't do much of anything without really wearing her out. At the time I spoke to her aunt, she suggested calling her because she was doing a little better.

That was the reason she didn't make it to the 40 year class reunion.  In fact Karen emailed me after the class reunion and said she wished she could have gone.  I emailed back that we should get together for lunch and I never did hear from her again.  At that time, I didn't know about her heart.

Because I procrastinated, I never got to tell her goodby.  I'll always be mad at myself for that.  I never did see an obituary, so I don't know what happened or if there was a service.  I don't see her aunt anymore, (she worked for my dentist), so I don't know how to get any details.

Hi Amber, I did a search on the internet for her obituary, Karen is listed as Karen Wright Mitchener. There is a beautiful picture of her. If I was a little better with computers, I would post her picture on here. Her daughter, Mandy Longmore also, passed away & she also, has her own obituary.

Thanks Debbie.  I had no idea Mandy had the same problem with her heart and that she had also passed away. Karen and I were still keeping in touch when Mandy was born.  It breaks my heart that she had to go through that loss when she was struggling with her own health issues.  I thought Karen had passed in 2013, I had no idea it was 2012. Thats how time gets away from you.  Thanks again for posting that additional information. You're right, it was a great picture of Karen.

Ah, Karen. I didn't have but one or two friends who were girls at Midvale Junior High.

The first was Janis Carter, my 6th and 7th grade squeeze; then in 7th grade, I lost her in a fist fight to Larry Despain behind the wood shop.

Then, I met Karen in a Russian class we were in together shortly after that and I'll be durned if we didn't hit it off, somehow.  Classroom flirty-flirty, she was still talking to me the next day, I remember thinking,"When is this ethereal angel with the Empire waist and big, beautiful eyes going to fly off like a slow-motion butterfly?"

She had way too much class for me. What a gorgeous, wonderfully nice person Karen was to see at school, 2 years at Midvale junior, then 3 at Hillcrest.

Thanks for getting the information on Karen.  I always want to know what people died from, especially the young ones, and many times the obituaries don't tell.  Karen was so quiet, I always wondered if it had anything to do with her father being the yearbook photographer.  Steve and I were so sad that he stepped back our senior year because he was such a good photographer.
