Kenneth Frederick Kastner "Ken The Painter" 1951 ~ 2006 Kenneth Frederick George Kastner passed away at his home Tuesday, August 22, after a brave battle with cancer. He was born on October 6, 1951 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Loretta M. and Alvin C. Kastner. Ken attended Judge Memorial High School, and Hillcrest High School where he graduated in 1969. After graduation he attended Trade Tech, where he received associates degrees in printing and commercial art. In 1971 he joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed at Balboa Hospital in San Diego. In July of 1973 he met the love of his life, Kathryn A. Peterson, they married in 1975, and had two beautiful sons. Ken started a painting business in 1974 and continued to paint homes right up until four days before his death. He loved to make people happy by turning their homes into a palace. He was an exceptional painter and took an enormous amount of pride in his work. He had a special way of leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met. He always had a joke to leave you with a smile or a laugh. He was outwardly kind and very giving. He had a lot of friendships that he cherished very much. Ken loved children very much, especially his many nieces and nephews. He loved working in the yard and garden, always striving to make, his, the most beautiful yard in the neighborhood. He very much loved the outdoors and enjoyed going fishing with his sons and his good friend Chris Johnson. Ken leaves behind his wife and soul mate Kathryn, his two wonderful sons, Shade (Kimi), and Haven (Holly), his father AI, and five brothers Richard (Peggy), Texas; Thomas (Debbie), Oklahoma; David (Marcella), Florida; Glenn (Lisa), Colorado; William (Lola), and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Loretta, sister Linda and his grandparents. The family gives a very special thanks to Cottonwood Cancer Specialists and staff, LDS and Cottonwood Hospitals and staff, Dr. Jonathan Whisenant, Ist Choice Hospice and Dr. Gregory Miller. Memorial services will be held at St Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, 1375 East Spring Lane, Rosary/Vigil, Thursday 7 p.m. Friends may gather at 10 a.m. Friday morning following with a Funeral Mass at 11:00 am. Graveside Services will be held directly after mass at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 4th Ave and "T" Street. A luncheon will be held in the Benvegnu Center at St. Vincent at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to an account set up for Kathryn A Kastner at any Mountain America Credit Union, for help with finances.
