Janet Alldredge (Rakich) VIEW PROFILE

Janet Alldredge (Rakich)

Janet Alldredge Rakich passed away with her two sons at her side and in the comfort and peace of her home on Tuesday, November 28th, 2023. She was 72 years old.

Born July 2nd, 1951 to Phillip and Maggie Alldredge in Union, Utah, Janet was the youngest of six beloved children. Being a part of Phil and Maggie’s family would instill in her many of the beautiful traits and traditions that formed her identity.

From an early age, Janet developed an artistic eye and passion for projects that beautified her surroundings. She was a talented decorator whose home elegantly reflected the changing seasons inside and out. A common activity for mom was going for drives in the fall and finding cattails or other desert flora to use for decorating. We remember Mom being in her garden envisioning how the space could be improved by a whiskey barrel planter, wagon wheel, or a fountain. She loved holidays and found every way imaginable to add more beauty to their arrival.

Janet graduated with an Associate degree from Utah Technical College and worked as an Office Manager and Bookkeeper to support her two sons, Jason and Nicholas.

Throughout much of their life she would raise them in the capacity of both mother and father; guiding their personal progress through school, sports, scouting, and other programs. Her love of family was never more manifest than in her selfless commitment and dedication to her boys.

Indeed, Janet’s family and its history were a true source of joy for her. Her childhood was filled with memories that created deep connections with those around her and those who came before. She was proud of her heritage and studied her family’s history. She gathered records, stories, pictures, and other memorabilia, and became a master scrapbooker. Janet exemplified a love for her ancestors and remembrance of them by creating a library of invaluable scrapbooks chronicling her family’s history. In this way, her talents became an everlasting gift to those she leaves behind.

Mom was blessed with a warmth that was infectious. As we have spoken to those who loved her this week, it was common to hear about Aunt Janet’s hugs or her beaming smile. Janet was truly a sincere cheerleader for everyone in her life. Her nieces and nephews might as well have been her own children in how much she cared about them and supported their activities.

Surely none were more the beneficiaries of Janet’s love, time, generosity, and talents than her eight darling grandchildren, who had her whole heart from the moment each of them entered her life. We are grateful they will carry with them countless memories of craft nights and sleepovers at Grandma Janet’s, egg hunts on Easter, Disney on Ice, and, of course, the annual Nutcracker, a tradition she started many years ago.

Janet was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and gained dear friends from her activity in that organization. She accepted many opportunities to serve in her congregations and we remember her dedication to these callings. We are grateful mom had an opportunity to share her many talents with her neighbors and friends in this way.

We are especially mindful of the goodness and service mom received from many throughout the years. Her brothers and sister, friends, ward members, neighbors, nieces, nephews, and others were with Mom often in her hardest moments to lift her burdens and raise her spirits. We are eternally grateful to you.

Janet is survived by her sons, Jason (Jen) and Nicholas (Heather); grandchildren Julienne, Emma, Gavin, Sydney, Camille, Zoe, and Xavier; brothers Dee (Betty), Brent, and Ned (Sharon). She was preceded in death by her parents Phillip and Maggie, brother Floyd (Dana), sister Joan (Eldred) Bills, and granddaughter Maggie Bringhurst.

The family would like to thank the nurses and aides from Inspiration Hospice, who provided Janet with much-needed care, compassion, and angelic service during her final year. We are grateful especially to her longtime aide Nora whose gifted spirit often quieted mom’s mind and soothed her pain.

A funeral service for Janet will be held on Saturday, December 16th, at 11 AM, at Larkin Sunset Gardens,1 950 E Dimple Dell Road, Sandy, UT 84092
. For those unable to attend, the funeral service will be live streamed at the link on Janet’s obituary page.

I knew Janet from an early age-Primary age. My twin and I greatly enjoyed her friendship. A group of us children would walk from school to the ward house on Wednesday afternoons. She was always friendly and and a cheerful person. After our family moved to Butler Hill, we didn't see much of her (only in passing in the hallway at school ( between classes). I have often wondered about her. May her family be comforted at this difficult time.
